Stove Servicing & Maintenance

Keep your wood burner running safely, cleanly and at its best.

A stove is only as safe and efficient as its seals, baffle and firebricks. As they age, rope seals harden, firebricks crack, baffle plates warp and door glass loses its clarity — all of which let air in where it should not be, waste fuel and let smoke escape into the room. Our servicing goes well beyond a sweep: we strip the stove down, inspect every wearing part, renew worn rope seals and firebricks, check the baffle and grate, clean the glass and confirm the door seals tightly on a paper test. You get a stove that lights easily, holds its heat and burns cleanly — plus a clear account of anything that needs attention.

Frequently asked questions

How is a stove service different from a sweep?
A sweep cleans the flue. A service looks after the stove itself — the seals, firebricks, baffle, grate and glass that wear out with use. We include a sweep as part of the service, but the focus is making sure the appliance is airtight, safe and burning efficiently.
How often should a stove be serviced?
Once a year for a stove in regular winter use, ideally at the same time as its annual sweep. If you notice the fire is harder to control, the glass blackens quickly or you can smell smoke in the room, it is worth booking sooner.
Do you carry replacement parts?
We carry the common consumables — rope seals in the usual sizes, fire cement, glass rope and firebricks that fit popular stoves. Model-specific baffles or glass sometimes need ordering, in which case we will identify exactly what is required and quote for a return visit.
My stove glass keeps blacking up — can you help?
Yes, that is one of the most common things we sort out. Blackening is usually down to a worn door seal, a cold-running flue, damp wood or the air-wash not working properly. A service addresses all of those, and we will advise on fuel and burning technique too.
Can you service any make of stove?
We service the vast majority of wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves regardless of make. Very occasionally a specialist or boiler stove needs manufacturer-specific parts — if so, we will tell you honestly rather than bodge it.
